The Hunter From The Woods

The Hunter from the Woods marks the much-anticipated return of Michael Gallatin, the lycanthropic hero of Robert McCammon's classic, The Wolf's Hour. These all-new, interlinked stories offer a full measure of McCammon's trademark narrative excitement, and comprise a fascinating composite portrait of a unique fictional creation. The volume opens with a pair of brief glimpses into Michael's early life in Russia and his initial recruitment into the British Secret Service. It ends with a haunting vision of the werewolf at twilight. In between, McCammon gives us three stellar novellas depicting different phases of Michael's long, brutal war against Nazi Germany. "Sea Chase" is a nautical tale about the hazards of transporting a defecting German scientist to a place of sanctuary in England. "The Wolf and the Eagle" is the account of an unlikely friendship between rival men of action and a harrowing portrayal of a lethal forced march through the North African desert. "The Room at the Bottom of the Stairs" tells of an impossible, ultimately tragic love affair set in the embattled city of Berlin during the latter stages of the war.

Erotic, visceral, and filled with moments of desolating horror and unexpected warmth, The Hunter from the Woods is a triumph of imaginative storytelling. Like the best of McCammon's earlier work, it offers intelligent, world-class entertainment. In the process, it shines a welcome new light on one of the most uncommon heroes in contemporary fiction.

This is my first Graphic Audio purchase...Wolf's Hour is one of my favorite horror/action novels, so I figured this was a good place to start. I am thoroughly impressed - excellent acting and narration, top notch music and sound effects. Can't wait to try more...

I was so afraid that Michael was going to die in the very end there- some super close calls...and I simply love all the emotions and plot twists in this book- even more than the Wolf's Hour itself. This is just so emotional at parts, heart-warming, and can be quite a tear-jerker- hint, listen till you got the last file left, then stop and go to bed without reading the last file till next day...I did that and I spent the whole night dreaming that I was Michael and trapped in that awful reality where I had to make such an awful choice. The acting is top notch as usual, and I can't help but wish for more and more and more of Michael's adventures- like those hinted in the last mini-story. I must say the thing with the ninjas in the end was a bit over the top, but that's a simple plot issue rather than anything to do with Graphic Audio.

WOW!!! One can only hope for McCammon to write more of Michael Gallatin's adventures, not to mention the story of his son...so that GA can produce them as well. This also makes me wish all the more for John Gardner's series of James Bond novels, beginning with License Renewed. THANKS!!! Note: While The Hunter From The Woods can be read and enjoyed on its own, it will be more meaningful if you read all three parts of Robert McCammon's The Wolf's Hour first. Wolf's Hour and Hunter From The Woods are two of GA's best productions ever.
