6: Song of Eagles

In Pecos Valley, New Mexico, a cattle war has erupted, pitting rancher against rancher across a once-peaceful land. It has thrust McCallister into the dead-center of one of the most violent battles on record—and barrel to barrel with the greatest challenge he has ever faced. His name is William Bonney. His victims called him Billy the kid. McCallister calls him a bad risk. But in the deadly gamble of the Lincoln County War, placing your bet on an outlaw like the Kid is the only game in town.

Loved this one, what with the film Young Guns being one of my favorite Westerns. This delved into more detail about the story of Billy the Kid. He was played very well, and I thought the actor who played John Chisum was a hoot, aping John Wayne's voice inflection. Overall, lot's of gunplay. A first-rate production.

This book sticks out to me because of Billy the kid who is one of these characters who you can't help but like. Michael Glenn definitely does him justice. The kid is arrogant, witty but still surprisingly loyal and he's definitely got style. Falcon feels a sort of kinship with him and becomes a sort of mentor for a while, and of course they get to blow heads off and stop dishonest ranchers from stealing cattle and land and all that. All the stuff we all wish we could do. So pick it up! Great plot, lots of asskicking and just another testament to justice and the good ol' American way.
