1: The First Mountain Man

On nothing more than a lark, he leaves his family and begins a journey from Ohio westward. Along the way, he runs up against badlands and bad men, loses his freedom, gains his freedom, and learns the first rule of the frontier: do whatever it takes to survive.

With ruthless enemies after him—both white men and Indians—he’ll head for a place as brutal as it is beautiful—the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains. Two years later, he will come back down from the mountaintop with new skills, and a new future as one of the most feared and admired men of his time...a man called Preacher.

Mountain man Preacher's plans to attend the annual rendezvous are changed when he agrees to lead a train of sixty wagons on the last leg of the rugged trail to Oregon, confronting scheming outlaws and hostile Native Americans along the way.

This is a fun adventure! Though not without it's flaws I was very pleased with the overall story! I enjoyed it enough to buy the second one.

Thought I wouldn't like this series, but I'm wrong. It is a well told well done book. Living up to the Graphic Audio name.

I like this series. It's about as well done as eagles, but you don't get as much history as you do in Eagles. Preacher is a big, strong ol' mountain man who gets pissed off a lot but has a soft heart underneath. Sit back and watch him gripe, killl people who need killin' and ruminate on how times used to be and how they need to stay. Great series just cuz it is, but I do wish he'd meat up with a character from Eagles. It's like he can come barging into other people's books but they can't have publicity in his? He's gotta be the first mountain man, first everything. Blah. Great book!
