Countdown

Cosmic legend has it that when the primordial gods of antiquity perished in some bygone cataclysm, the universe gave birth to a new breed of gods who reigned from two eternally warring worlds, the heavenly New Genesis and the hellish Apokolips. Now a vast conspiracy of evil is determined to eradicate the New Gods and steal their souls to obtain universal power that can destroy all of reality.

Jimmy Olsen, Superman’s pal and the redheaded photographer for the Daily Planet, exhibits powers of his own and, with them, has the opportunity to become a hero. Meanwhile, Mary Marvel awakens from a coma to discover that she’s been abandoned by her family and friends—and her magical ability to wield the thunderbolt.

Donna Troy, Jason Todd, and Holly Robinson, once super heroes, were forced to retire and rejoin the ranks of humanity. Until the Earth calls upon Wonder Girl, Robin, and Catwoman once more to prevent a crisis beyond all imagination.

At the end of an age where time, space, and reality may bow before sinister forces, the fate of the Earth lies in the hands of five unlikely super heroes who have one destiny to fulfill: save the world at all costs…

I've been blind since birth, and was introduced to DC Comics via the DC Animated Universe--EG Batman and Superman animated series thanks to my little brother when we were much younger. I own all the various animated series on DVD, but I wanted more. I was very frustrated because there just wasn't much of a demand for comics adapted to audio. So I was very excited when I happened upon this gem of a website and am in the process of devouring their DC titles. Graphic Audio, please please please keep the DC titles coming! They're a blind comic consumer's dream come true. And is there any hope of Marvel titles being added some day? I've always been a bigSuperman/New Gods/Darkseid fan so I absolutely loved this title. The voice actors are so very spot on. The music is excellent. The sound effects draw the listener into the very comic itself. I can't thank Graphic Audio enough for opening this exciting new vista to me. So once again, more DC titles, please! My walet is primed and ready to shell out the cash, GA.

I really liked it. Harley Quinn is awesome! My friend did not like it at all. If you are not a loyal comic book reader and do not know who's who is DC I'd would avoid this title.

Very impressive. Countdown adapts a convoluted and much-maligned story arc published by DC Comics from 2007-2008. What author Greg Cox has done is strip the story to its bare essentials, removing all the needless filler and tangents meant to tie into other ongoing comics. The end result is a fast-paced, easy-to-understand and often compelling narrative that gives Superman's Pal and other lesser-known characters a chance to shine. It's still not as good as DC's other year-long opus 52, but it's certainly come a long way from being near-unreadable. GraphicAudio once again delivers the goods to produce an immersive narrative. Most of the voice acting is spot on - the actress for Mary Marvel handles her duality well, but Harley Quinn can occasionally get a little grating. Ray Palmer's story is one of the standout chapters from the original comic, and it's been adapted here with the right emotional punch. Definitely worth the purchase.
