Kylara Vatta is the only daughter in a family full of sons, and her father's only child to buck tradition by choosing a military career instead of joining the family business. For Ky, it's no contest: Even running the prestigious Vatta Transport Ltd. shipping concern can't hold a candle to shipping out as an officer aboard an interstellar cruiser. It's adventure, not commerce, that stirs her soul. And despite her family's misgivings, there can be no doubt that a Vatta in the service will prove a valuable asset. But with a single error in judgment, it all comes crumbling down.

Expelled from the Academy in disgrace-and returning home to her humiliated family, a storm of high-profile media coverage, and the gaping void of her own future—Ky is ready to face the inevitable onslaught of anger, disappointment, even pity. But soon after opportunity's door slams shut, Ky finds herself with a ticket to ride—and a shot at redemption-as captain of a Vatta Transport ship.

It's a simple assignment: escorting one of the Vatta fleet's oldest ships on its final voyage...to the scrapyard. But keeping it simple has never been Ky's style. And even though her father has provided a crew of seasoned veterans to baby-sit the fledgling captain on her maiden milk run, they can't stop Ky from turning the routine mission into a risky venture—in the name of turning a profit for Vatta Transport, of course.

By snapping up a lucrative delivery contract defaulted on by a rival company, and using part of the proceeds to upgrade her condemned vehicle, Ky aims to prove she's got more going for her than just her family's famous name. But business will soon have to take a backseat to bravery, when Ky's change of plans sails her and the crew straight into the middle of a colonial war. For all her commercial savvy, it's her military training and born-soldier's instincts that Ky will need to call on in the face of deadly combat, dangerous mercenaries, and violent mutiny...

Listened to it Again and Again by Chris (Posted on 5/16/2018)
I always liked stories of traders in space and even own some of the first books of this series. Its great in its progression in graphic audio. Its a series that I frequently load onto my mp3 player and play for weeks on end during long commutes. The sound effects and clips from the combat in space was great. Though I found the voice used for Ky Vatta to be a little grating. She sounded like she had a neverending sinus infection, but I got used to it as the series progressed.

Holy smokes my favorite series out of all the titles non stop action has all the ingredients of a great story. Where do I start tragedy, heartbreak, failure and an awesome ending to boot. Elizabeth Moon is a great story teller. Hopefully you get the new books that take place after this series HINT HINT! And as always the Cast kills it as well.
First Graphicaudio book by allen (Posted on 11/17/2017)
A friend of mine put this audiobook on when I came over to help him move. I was so impressed by both the book and the recitation that I proceeded to order both this whole series and the serrano Legacy books as well. they got me hooked I personally I loved the characters though Stella Vatta really bothered me in the 3rd book because her personality changed completely from the second.
Vattas War by Tom (Posted on 9/29/2017)
This is a great series. The central character is engaging and sympathetic. She's smart yet still human. As with any story that covers multiple books, it can drag a little in the middle but it really pays off in the end. If I had one complaint, it would be that the villains of the story are very one dimensional. Sort of a "I'm evil because I'm supposed to be" sort of thing. Anyway, great story and great characters. Voice acting was awesome too. If you liked the TV shot Firefly then this should be right up your alley.
Mind Blowing Advanture by Daniel (Posted on 9/18/2017)
This is an incredible series of action and drama. It is a slow start but at the point Ky gets into space you won't want to stop.

The story of Ky Vatta is, I believe, one of discovery then of character growth. She discovers what make her tick and how she has to over come obstacle after obstacle that is thrown her way. Experiencing her journey is incredible and powerful. This Futuristic Sci-Fi gives a unique blend of colony life, space travel and some interstellar espionage.

The Sound Effects, The Music, the Voice Acting is incredible. The performances are breath taking and a real pleasure to hear. It is not just simple narration nor a one man show as some audio books are. These are voice actors and the level of emotions; the passion and anger that is performed is so incredible that I love hearing it over and over.

This one of (my) favorite Graphic Audio Series and will recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the Sci-fi genre.
Best series so far by Sean (Posted on 6/8/2017)
Absolutely loved this series. I love the sci-fi genre in Graphic Audio. The story is excellent and well acted by all involved. It kept me highly intrigued throughout. I'd be very happy to see another Elizabeth Moon title done or one of a similar caliber. Rogue clone is the next best to this one but gets a little far fetched sometimes. With little exception, Vattas war stays both in the realm of future feasibility and futuristic fancy. A tough feat.
