First Mountain Man
1 : First Mountain Man

by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone
Nov 1, 2007
6 Hours
978-1-59950-385-1
Ages 18+
On nothing more than a lark, he leaves his family and begins a journey from Ohio westward. Along the way, he runs up against badlands and bad men, loses his freedom, gains his freedom and learns the first rule of the frontier: do whatever it takes to survive.

With ruthless enemies after him-both white men and Indians-he'll head for a place as brutal as it is beautiful-the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains. Two years later, he will come back down from the mountaintop with new skills and a new future as one of the most feared and admired men of his time...a man called Preacher.

Mountain man Preacher's plans to attend the annual rendezvous are changed when he agrees to lead a train of sixty wagons on the last leg of the rugged trail to Oregon, confronting scheming outlaws and hostile Native Americans along the way.

Was not sure about this sight at first, or this series, but I thought I would give it a try. The first Mountain Man has me hooked on this particular series. Its like being hooked on crack, have to go slow, as to enjoy the story. Wish my wife could understand that when I spend money on these audio books that its better then me sitting in a tavern all night. I could listen to this stuff 24/7.

Gotta love Preacher. A good friend. But don't get on his bad side..
You Really don't want to meet him in the dead of night... when you have ticked him off.
great stories. Love the action. And the laughs. Also the crossover between characters in other series. When does he meet Smoke? ? ? I want to get this story from Preachers side of things...

First MM 1 by Arthur (Posted on 2/3/2014)
One needs to read/listen to this to see where Preacher comes from. I have all the books, there better than the regular cowboys shooting um up. For newbys , there are some coming up that I rate at the 5 horse shoes.
Scott Elston by Scott (Posted on 11/11/2013)
A great beginning to the series. It wasn't the first I listened to but it made me want to buy them all!!
Meet Preacher by Lowell Fultz (Posted on 11/6/2013)
The 1st installment of the First Mountain Man is a perfect intro to Preacher. Half out of pity, half out of a sense of duty, Preacher leads a wagon train of "pilgrams" across the Rockies to Oregon. His encounters with foes, both white and redskin make for great entertainment.

If you enjoy the western genre, The First Mountain Man series will keep you glued to your radio/smartphone/mp3 player..

Very enjoyable book. I don't get into reading but love listening to these as I drive down the road
Review by Everett Elam (Posted on 5/23/2013)
I like this series. It's about as well done as eagles, but you don't get as much history as you do in Eagles. Preacher is a big, strong ol' mountain man who gets pissed off a lot but has a soft heart underneath. Sit back and watch him gripe, killl people who need killin' and ruminate on how times used to be and how they need to stay. Great series just cuz it is, but I do wish he'd meat up with a character from Eagles. It's like he can come barging into other people's books but they can't have publicity in his? He's gotta be the first mountain man, first everything. Blah. Great book!
Review by David VanDehy (Posted on 5/23/2013)
Thought I wouldn't like this series, but I'm wrong. It is a well told well done book. Living up to the Graphic Audio name.
