Nineteenth century London is the center of a vast British Empire, a teeming metropolis where steam-power is king and airships ply the skies, and where Queen Victoria presides over three quarters of the known world—including the east coast of America, following the failed revolution of 1775.

Young Gideon Smith has seen things that no green lad of Her Majesty’s dominion should ever experience. Through a series of incredible events Gideon has become the newest Hero of the Empire. But Gideon is a man with a mission, for the dreaded Texas pirate Louis Cockayne has stolen the mechanical clockwork girl Maria, along with a most fantastical weapon—a great brass dragon that was unearthed beneath ancient Egyptian soil. Maria is the only one who can pilot the beast, so Cockayne has taken girl and dragon off to points east.

Gideon and his intrepid band take to the skies and travel to the American colonies hot on Cockayne’s trail. Not only does Gideon want the machine back, he has fallen in love with Maria. Their journey will take them to the wilds of the lawless lands south of the American colonies – to free Texas, where the mad King of Steamtown rules with an iron fist (literally), where life is cheap and honor even cheaper.

Does Gideon have what it takes to not only save the day but win the girl?

David Barnett's Gideon Smith and the Brass Dragon is a fantastical steampunk fable set against an alternate historical backdrop: the ultimate Victoriana/steampunk mash-up!

Gideon Smith 2 : Gideon Smith and the Brass Dragon by Anthony (Posted on 5/30/2016)
While looking for something new and different in GA, I ended up purchasing book 1 & 2 at the same time after hearing samples. Totally enjoyed the series so far and cannot wait for the next one.
Keep 'em coming! by Eric (Posted on 5/12/2016)
I loved the first one so much, I couldn't wait to listen to this one. A someone who travels a lot for a living, it's nice to have something to look forward to when hitting the road for 10 hours. On shorter trips, I sometimes find myself sitting in the parking lot for an extra few minutes just because I can't stop listening for what happens next.

The characters in this series, while all written to be the archetype, still have their depths. I loved all of them from the reluctant hero to the sleazy villain (who I might add, did an outstanding job). This one was also fun in the way the author brought several separate story lines into one that worked.

There are only a few GA series that I keep handy to listen to more than once. Gideon Smith is now on that list.

It's a special thing when story, production, and actors all come together to make something so entertaining. So bravo to all those responsible! I don't think it's my imagination when I say that the GA acting company just keeps getting better at bringing the characters to life. And, the production staff do an incredible job allowing me to "see" the world where the brass dragon lives.

This is decidedly, another "mile turner." I just hope that GA keeps producing the Gideon Smith series. I'll keep buying them.

Excellent book hope they make another
Thumbs up by Victor (Posted on 11/22/2015)
Suprised that the second book in this series was every bit as entertaining as the first. Not only does a rollicking good time continue, it left me wamting more. More of the characters, more of the adventure(s), more of everything I've encountered within Gideon Smiths world.
Amazing to the last drop by Christina (Posted on 10/23/2015)
How much I have come to love this series. This novel will keep you gripped from the min you hit play. Gun stingers, whores and foul language might detur the faint of heart but I loved every second of it!
Just as good as the first. by Jason (Posted on 7/26/2015)

Good follow up by damien (Posted on 7/6/2015)
I enjoyed this one quite a bit, thought the characters were more solid than the first book, however I think I liked the story better in the first. Both were great and I am looking forward to the next entry in the series.
Another rip roaring good time. by Jared (Posted on 6/23/2015)
The short story was a fun romp. The first book was a tongue-in-cheek adventure not too unlike the penny dreadfuls which inspired it (just longer).

I can heartily recommend this to anyone not just looking for a steam punk adventure or an alternate history adventure. But for a good old fashioned, globe trotting, fun time having 'effing' adventure. True, our heroes are not icons of virtue, but they are all the more fun for their flaws. The villains are truly villains in the funnest way, crazy and charming with it, while our secret antagonists are just as flawed and interesting as our protagonists, with their own stories and quirks.

Graphic Audio has, in my opinion, never failed at making the material they have to work with at least sound damned good, even when the story is rubbish. They have, however, the good fortune to work with a pure fun, edge of your seat adventure that I would recommend heartily.
excellent continuation of the story by john (Posted on 6/22/2015)
so many great characters and situations, a number of plots intertwining, and a writing style that keeps the story moving forward. great presentation, this series has it all.
