On November 3, 1908, in the town of San Vicente, suspected of stealing a mining company payroll, Butch Cassidy was killed in a bloody shootout by the Bolivian Army.

Or was he?

In a small Texas town in 1950, a man from the Pinkerton Detective Agency interrupts an old-timer's daily game of dominos to learn the truth about Butch Cassidy--who is still alive and well and sitting right in front of him...

So begins the novel of the West's most legendary outlaw--as told by America's master storytellers, William W. Johnstone and J.A.Johnstone. Butch Cassidy The Lost Years reveals the stunning secret behind that infamous shootout in Bolivia that claimed the lives of the Sundance Kid and, allegedly, Butch himself. For years, there were rumors that Cassidy survived. Now, almost half a century later, an old man playing dominos tells the real story of his life and times, legend be damned.

After fleeing South America and informing the beautiful Etta Place that her beloved Sundance is dead, Butch returns to Texas searching for a place to call home. When he comes across a dying rancher who'd been shot by some rustlers, Butch promises to avenge him--and take over the ranch after his death. Assuming the name Jim Strickland, Butch tries to start a fresh new chapter in his life. But even with his old gang gone and his outlaw past behind him, trouble has a way of finding Butch. Cruel injustice--in the form of a corrupt railroad baron--pulls him into the most dangerous train robbery he's ever attempted. But if Butch Cassidy is going to ride again, it'll have to be with a newer, and wilder, Wild Bunch...

Reviews

Hoping for a Series here by Ronald (Posted on 10/11/2018)
Extremely likable characters and great attention given to all details, I started this book at 2am on a road trip and forgot about it for awhile. I restarted it this Monday and finished it in less than 4 days! I could not get enough, I sure hope there are more coming. I would love to see more of Butch Cassidy, both in The Lost Years as well as his rampage years with the Sundance Kid!
VERY DIFFERENT by Charles (Posted on 4/9/2016)
Not sure about the real truth of his end, but this story gave a good what if very good story.
Loved it! by Meagan (Posted on 11/26/2014)
This was my first GA and I absolutely loved it. The cast was amazing, the story was really entertaining, all the way up to the very end. Totally worth it! This is a must buy.

I really hope they make more!
More coming I hope! by William (Posted on 5/6/2014)
I was a bit skeptical on this title but purchased it with my fingers crossed. Let me say this "WOW!" this is a wonderful story with a lot going on but very easy to follow. I was hoping for a part two to come out but as of yet it has not. Maybe still needs to be written.
Graphic Audio never disappoints with their productions of these stories and this story is certainly no exception!
Great Job!!!
full-cast pours spirit into a wide array of likable characters by Audiofile Reviews (Posted on 1/2/2014)
A full cast takes on a question that has plagued historians for years: Was Butch Cassidy killed on November 3, 1908, by the Bolivian army, or did he lead a secret life under an assumed identity? In Texas in 1950, Pinkerton detective Nathan Tuttle learns the stunning truth behind that infamous shoot-out. After fleeing South America, Butch returns to Texas and assumes the name Jim Strickland. A trap is set that results in a showdown between Butch and the law. The full-cast pours spirit into a wide array of likable characters, with each cast member adding dimension to his or her portrayal. This dramatic presentation enhances the Johnstones' lively writing style with its plentiful dialogue. S.C.A. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine
