Seven centuries in the future, the sport of American football has never been bigger, never been faster, never been more lethal. Trillions of fans from all over the galaxy watch six unique races battle in contests so violent that deaths are part of the stat sheet.

Star quarterback Quentin Barnes has led his beloved Ionath Krakens to glory on the gridiron and become the most-recognized individual in history, but it is off the field where his world crumbles around him. Over four seasons with Ionath, he's picked up powerful enemies: one of which drove his sister into the Portath Cloud, a place from which no ship returns. Because his enemies include his team owner a possessive crime lord who treats players like property and the ruling government that controls the shipping lanes, Quentin and his friends must hide from the media spotlight as they search for a way to rescue his sister.

The GFL series melds star-spanning scifi, brutal crime fiction and intense sports action into a smash-mouth extravaganza unlike anything you've read before.

Reviews

Book 5 by Zack (Posted on 2/27/2019)
Long-time fans should be forewarned that there is a noticeable amount of material cut out of the first part of this story. There are missing parts that would have been fun to hear performed by the GA cast, but I don’t think it detracts from the overall presentation too much. Also, the pacing may seem a bit rushed if you’ve listened to the audiobook version of the story before listening to this GA adaptation.

While this is another entertaining title in the GFL series, I don’t like it as much as the previous story, The MVP. Still, there’s more than enough action and thrills to keep GFL fans entertained, and the GA production team and actors continue to do great work.
Great Audio Book by Robert (Posted on 2/24/2019)
I'm a big fan of all of these books. The ending of this one comes with a big surprise!
Gallactic Football League: The Champion 1 by Steve (Posted on 2/18/2019)
This was a great book. Recommend this entire series if you like football and science fiction. I feel it's going to come to an end soon though, don't know how much more the plot can go without somekind of resolution
Continued quality production by John (Posted on 8/15/2017)
I was pleased that the source material length for the Champion did not suffer in the retelling in the 10-disc package of the Graphic Audio production. In the previous book, THE MVP, I felt the 2nd half was really rushed, but even though THE CHAMPION was quite a big longer than THE MVP, it did not feel rushed at all.

The same quality sound production, with full effects, music and background foley work still accompanies the fine, full-cast production. I don’t really notice the music for most of the productions, but this one really seemed to pair the appropriate action with fitting musical accompaniment.

I’m looking foward to hearing this series finally finish out with the next couple of books, whenever those get done. I’ll pre-order them as soon as I see them!
I liked the pace by rafael (Posted on 7/7/2017)
I seem not to be able to figure out all the twists and turns out but it's fun following the coarse of this series.
Feels shorter and rushed by Jared (Posted on 6/14/2017)
I've so far loved GA's adaptation of the GFL series, but there's something about part 1 of The Champion that as me irked. I didn't know what it was until I listened to the audiobook version again and realised how much was cut out, including the Greatest Damn Sports Show, which I thought was a highlight with GA's actors doing a radio show. The performances are still great, the production value fantastic, but it all feels rushed and is probably the shortest entry in the series.
