Ages 13+
Rusty Shannon has left the Rangers and feels the need to settle down. He has brought up Andy Pickard, once a captive of the Comanches, now in his twenties and eager to see more of the world. Rusty's dream of marrying Josie Monahan and living the life of a farmer seems like Paradise, compared to the Civil War and the evils of Reconstruction. His dreams and plans, and the lives of the Monahans, are shattered by tragedy, and Rusty seeks revenge. By his side are Andy and an old friend from Ranger days, Len Tanner.

Rangers Trail by Kirk (Posted on 11/15/2016)
We really love the series, but I think they make Rusty a little to manic after the loss of his beloved. On the other hand, will he ever get married? Overall a good story, well worth the listen.

Will Rusty ever catch a break? Not this time. He is thoroughly tested to find out what kind of man he is.
Ranger's Trail by Dale (Posted on 2/10/2015)
It seems that Rusty will never find Happiness. Just as he decides that he loves Josie for herself and not as a substitute for her sister, she's killed, Rusty goes on a mad man hunt, to be saved from himself by the boy he befriended years ago. Mr. Kelton writes a realistic sounding story, with multiple story lines that twist and spin through the series, but each book can stand on it's own. Love the series.

They say Texas Rangers are fearless trackers, always finding their man. This full-cast performance brings the rough-and-tumble West to life, complete with spurs, horses, and rifle fire. Rusty Shannon, Civil War veteran and former Texas Ranger, returns to Texas to settle down and raise a family with his fiancée, Josie Monahan. When Josie is killed by the Bascom family, Rusty; Andy Pickard, his 20-year-old friend raised by Comanches; and Len Tanner, an old friend, ex-soldier, and now a Texas Ranger, follow the Bascoms' trail, seeking vengeance. The principal narrator’s grandfatherly voice consistently moves the plot forward. Texas and Southern accents liberally sprinkled with Indian war whoops add texture to this rousing Western. Another twist in Rusty's love life. This gets about hilarious. He just can't get married. Len Tanner is a good actor and character. I don't know who plays him but he does a fabulous job with that character. Kinda funny to see Rusty's dark side. The ending is kinda weird. I'm kinda confused by Elmer Kelton's views of love and how women feel about men and vice versa. One minute a women is scared to death of a man and then the next she's feeling warm feelings and wanting to run away with him. Strange. I guess some people are like that.
