2 : Words of Radiance (3 of 5)

by Brandon Sanderson
Dec 13, 2016
7 Hours
Ages 13+
Six years ago, the Assassin in White, a hireling of the inscrutable Parshendi, assassinated the Alethi king on the very night a treaty between men and Parshendi was being celebrated. So began the Vengeance Pact among the highprinces of Alethkar and the War of Reckoning against the Parshendi.

Now the Assassin is active again, murdering rulers all over the world of Roshar, using his baffling powers to thwart every bodyguard and elude all pursuers. Among his prime targets is Highprince Dalinar, widely considered the power behind the Alethi throne. His leading role in the war would seem reason enough, but the Assassin's master has much deeper motives.

Expected by his enemies to die the miserable death of a military slave, Kaladin survived to be given command of the royal bodyguards, a controversial first for a low-status "darkeyes." Now he must protect the king and Dalinar from every common peril as well as the distinctly uncommon threat of the Assassin, all while secretly struggling to master remarkable new powers that are somehow linked to his honorspren, Syl.

Brilliant but troubled Shallan strives along a parallel path. Despite being broken in ways she refuses to acknowledge, she bears a terrible burden: to somehow prevent the return of the legendary Voidbringers and the civilization-ending Desolation that will follow. The secrets she needs can be found at the Shattered Plains, but just arriving there proves more difficult than she could have imagined.

Meanwhile, at the heart of the Shattered Plains, the Parshendi are making an epochal decision. Hard pressed by years of Alethi attacks, their numbers ever shrinking, they are convinced by their war leader, Eshonai, to risk everything on a desperate gamble with the very supernatural forces they once fled. The possible consequences for Parshendi and humans alike, indeed, for Roshar itself, are as dangerous as they are incalculable.

Journey Before Destination by Keri (Posted on 9/8/2018)

“What has happened to us?” Dalinar asked. “Where is our honor?”
“Honor is dead,” a voice whispered from beside him. Dalinar turned and looked at Captain Kaladin. He hadn’t noticed the bridgeman walking down the steps behind him. Kaladin took a deep breath, then looked at Dalinar. “But I’ll see what I can do...."

Ok, seriously, this is Brandon Sanderson. Really there isn't anything else to say. Oh, except that listening to a Brandon Sanderson book in graphic audio only makes things even more amazing.

Love these narrators! So worth the $$$!
Stormfather, this is amazing! by Gene (Posted on 8/25/2018)
“You cannot kill the wind. You cannot stop it. It’s beyond the touch of men, it’s infinite!” And then, his storm light ran out.

The duel at the end of this production had me out of my seat multiple times, pacing my living room as the clang of shardblade on plate rang out on my speakers. One of the most exciting productions I’ve ever had the pleasure to enjoy! Quite the cliffhanger on this one, I had to go grab the next one right away!
Great Book by Chase (Posted on 6/19/2018)
Excellent performance by GA, and an amazing story by Brandon Sanderson.
Excellent adaption by Mr Ryan P (Posted on 6/1/2018)
They do a great job adapting this to the graphic audio. I do Street outreach work, and love listening to this series as so drive around looking for folks.
Stormlight archives words of radiance by Stephen (Posted on 5/9/2018)
The build up is obviously a large one, if the first book is a example. Waiting in anticipation, which is hard I'm addicted lol.
Wow! by Travis (Posted on 3/7/2018)
Just wow! I really enjoyed this part. Shallan and Adolin's courtship begins, Kaladin learns more about his powers, and the last part with the duel... even if it left it in a cliffhanger until the next part... just wow! I'm really loving GA's adaption of Brandon Sanderson's Words of Radiance. It definitely brings the book to life in a wonderful and entertaining way. The epic music tied in with sound effects only enhance the listening experience. I'm very much looking forward to listening to Part 4.
Style Adaptation by Donald (Posted on 1/21/2018)
Compared to the previous volumes and chapters, this chapter featured parts of the story where two storylines were told at the same time. Instead of finishing a Shalan snippet and then a Kaladin snippet, there are parts of the story where both storyline parts happen in parallel, as opposed to in series. Unsure if this was the original design by the author, but regardless, the narrator Dylan Lynch does it well. The sound team we made the music and the sound effects did the transitions magnificently.

no way hat it can be better but it is just great
A World of Facinating Powers by Armand (Posted on 11/13/2017)
This one is somewhat less action, but delves more into the politics or the "magic stuff" , but still plenty of action and thoroughly entertaining! As before, an outstanding production!
awesome by Lionel (Posted on 2/10/2017)
Another great part. The action at the end is awesome, and the cliffhanger. Kaladin is the man.
Best Part Yet by Amy (Posted on 2/1/2017)
This audiobook as a whole has been consistently wowing me so far with the production quality, the acting, everything. This part is my favorite so far. It even redeemed Adolin for me, whom I had grown to dislike. I loved his relationship with Shallan. And that ending. WOW.
This part focus on the relation between Shalan and Adolin by Patrick (Posted on 1/3/2017)
We also see Adolin make a quite large mistake and this part offers the most exciting duel in the whole series.
Suspensful ending to Part 3 by Scott (Posted on 12/28/2016)
This was a great new part to the story. It is also why waiting for parts in GA is so hard. We learned more of Shallon's tragic backstory while exploring new parts of the world of Roshar and its different cultures and peoples and how everything in this world is changing and becoming in anticipation for an upcoming storm. Also we see a little more behind the curtain and strange groups moving around looking for individuals and objects that seem to know more about what is happening than most of our main characters. Plus there seems to be more than 1 or 2 secret societies that know about the greater story of the Cosmere and other worlds. The overall plot knot only ramps of for this part and book 2 but for the overall story of the Cosmere worlds and more world building or in this case universe building for Sanderson's Cosmere universe. I can't wait to see the next part and see the conclusion to the suspenseful cliffhanger. Help, my fingers are slipping off the cliff!! AHHHHH!
Outstanding performance by Martin G. (Posted on 12/19/2016)
I'm in awe. The performance of all the voice actors is outstanding. Incredible. Graphic Audio has the best voice actors I've ever heard in any TV show or movie or anywhere else. All the emotions and accents and incantations and voices of characters are spot on, absolutely marvelous. The sound effects and music for this series are incredible, so hats off to the sound artists @GA too!

I cannot believe that some people had anything to criticize about voice acting. I've read the books several times each myself and GA did an amazing job at giving life of voice and sound to this awesome story.
I've worked with sound and voices in few small projects myself and I know how challenging it can be.

I'm writing this review for entire Stormlight series, not just this particular part. All 8 parts are splendid. 10/10

Can't wait for all the next parts!
WTH?!!! REALLY?! by Dave (Posted on 12/17/2016)
It's bad enough that I have to deal with Peter V Brett's obsession with cliffhangers, now you guys do it to me here?! Awesome book and performance, but you guy were wrong for the ending. I was driving down the interstate looking like a crazed lunatic when it ended! Why dear God did I pick Graphicaudio as my addiction?! But seriously, good job as always!
Great! but oh man mean cliffhanger by J (Posted on 12/16/2016)
Amazing work as always. But the cliffhanger is painful. going to be hard waiting for the next part, I might just have to actually buy a paperback copy while i wait. 9/10
Worst Cliffhanger ever by Paul (Posted on 12/15/2016)
I cant believe you guys stopped this book there and then make me wait almost a month for the next one. Not cool especially with this one only being 7 hours, would of loved 1 more hour in there. But over all very well done audio book!
5 Headphones x 2 by Zuberi (Posted on 12/15/2016)
This definitely on of my favorite series from GA. The story line is very epic and the way that this chapter ended has me looking... no anxious for the next one due in Jan.

What a way to end this one, the biggest cliffhanger in this series yet. I do wish they had more of Dalinar in it. He's one of my favorite characters.

I started to look at buying the series of books only to find that book 3 in the series is set to come out in November 2017, which means it may be some time before we get the end of the GA version.

Thanks GA... you guys are the shizzzniiit
You Stopped it there!?! by Evelyn (Posted on 12/14/2016)
Oh this will be a hard wait for part 4. I can't believe GA didn't finish... no spoilers. It's a good cliffhanger. I'm just surprised by where it stopped.

Robbie Gay was awesome in this part. My favorite of this section. He portrayed sides of Kaladin I had not considered before.

Tim Getman and Cassie Platt were everything I expected. I had been looking forward to their scenes and was not disappointed.

It's not perfect but it was a pleasure. Looking forward to more.
