2 : Words of Radiance (4 of 5)

by Brandon Sanderson
Dec 26, 2016
7 Hours
Ages 13+
Six years ago, the Assassin in White, a hireling of the inscrutable Parshendi, assassinated the Alethi king on the very night a treaty between men and Parshendi was being celebrated. So began the Vengeance Pact among the highprinces of Alethkar and the War of Reckoning against the Parshendi.

Now the Assassin is active again, murdering rulers all over the world of Roshar, using his baffling powers to thwart every bodyguard and elude all pursuers. Among his prime targets is Highprince Dalinar, widely considered the power behind the Alethi throne. His leading role in the war would seem reason enough, but the Assassin's master has much deeper motives.

Expected by his enemies to die the miserable death of a military slave, Kaladin survived to be given command of the royal bodyguards, a controversial first for a low-status "darkeyes." Now he must protect the king and Dalinar from every common peril as well as the distinctly uncommon threat of the Assassin, all while secretly struggling to master remarkable new powers that are somehow linked to his honorspren, Syl.

Brilliant but troubled Shallan strives along a parallel path. Despite being broken in ways she refuses to acknowledge, she bears a terrible burden: to somehow prevent the return of the legendary Voidbringers and the civilization-ending Desolation that will follow. The secrets she needs can be found at the Shattered Plains, but just arriving there proves more difficult than she could have imagined.

Meanwhile, at the heart of the Shattered Plains, the Parshendi are making an epochal decision. Hard pressed by years of Alethi attacks, their numbers ever shrinking, they are convinced by their war leader, Eshonai, to risk everything on a desperate gamble with the very supernatural forces they once fled. The possible consequences for Parshendi and humans alike, indeed, for Roshar itself, are as dangerous as they are incalculable.

Journey Before Destination by Keri (Posted on 9/8/2018)

We have now reached where Shallan and Kaladin are in the ravine. The ragging between these two!!

“Well, at least the companionship is pleasant.” He eyed her. “For you, I mean,” she added.
“Am I going to have to listen to you prattle all the way back?”
“Of course not,” she said. “I also intend to do some blathering, a little nattering, and the occasional gibber. But not too much, lest I overdo a good thing.”
“I’ve been practicing my burble,” she added.
“I just can’t wait to hear.”
“Oh, well, that was it, actually.”

Kaladin is struggling in this one. He is angry and is carrying a gigantic chip on his shoulder. I still love him but also want to shake him.

Ok, seriously, this is Brandon Sanderson. Really there isn't anything else to say. Oh, except that listening to a Brandon Sanderson book in graphic audio only makes things even more amazing.

Love these narrators! So worth the $$$!
Great Book by Chase (Posted on 6/19/2018)
Great addition to the series.
Keeps it rolling by Mr Ryan P (Posted on 6/1/2018)
The plot twists and turns in this section are really engaging. Very cool stuff. The actor that voices Adolin is fantastic.
Epic by Travis (Posted on 3/12/2018)
Just wow. The story is so good. And Graphic Audio does a marvelous job bringing it to life with the perfect voice acting, narration, and sound effects and music. It all comes together amazingly. Robbie Gay and Casie Platt are great as Kaladin and Shallan.

A World of Facinating Powers by Armand (Posted on 11/13/2017)
Oh boy, more politics, selfish motives, other forces against the King, more action... you will not be disappointed by this great production!
Words of Radiance by Shaheen (Posted on 9/8/2017)
I tried so hard to make this last. Struggling to only listen to it on my commute. I failed...miserably. This book and this GA performance are just too addicting. it's amazing how completely the combination of music, sound effects, varied voice performances and narration combine to create such an immersive experience. Once it ends, you cannot help but do anything to return to this world. It filled my days and nights with visions of the Shattered Plains, cannot wait to get back there!
beyond expectations by Lionel (Posted on 2/10/2017)
When Way of Kings came out I really didn't like Kaladin, or Shallans voices. But the actors have swayed me with their great performances. Now when I think about those two, those are the voices I associate with them. Great job again!
My absolute favorite part by Amy (Posted on 2/6/2017)
This is, without a doubt, my favorite part of this book so far. In it, Shallan and Kaladin, our main Radiant so far, have met. Their banter is glorious. I loved seeing their relationship evolve as time went on. And that ending.

Currently listening to part 5 with great interest.
Ending spots for parts.... by John (Posted on 1/31/2017)
Part 3 was such a cliffhanger, it irked me alot at first listen. I see the purpose now. Ok. Then part 4s ending was better surely, but seemed arbitrary. But it's all in aid of Part 5!

Part 5, do not leave any emotion out, bring the story fully in our minds. The end of Book 2 is spectacular enough to meander throughout 1-4. Thank you Graphic Audio. May you get Oathbringer (Book 3) ahead of time and have it ready to release when the novel is. Contact Dragonsteel and Tor Books. It's best for your business surely, to compete with Amazon, Audible on release day. You will get my money.

Excellent by Brandon (not that one) (Posted on 1/10/2017)
Excellent production. Really brings the books to life. Where oh where is part 5!!! I can't wait!
Wonderful by William (Posted on 1/3/2017)
Can't wait for more
We learn to know more about Shallans history by Patrick (Posted on 1/3/2017)
Kaladan make a huge mistake. We also learn to know more about Shallans dark history and see her growing skills when she's trying to con the bad guys. She has some quite interesting interaction with Kaladan.

I see that book 3 in the series, Oathbringer, will not be released until November, so I guess we have to wait quite awhile until we can listen to it. In the meantime maybe you can do an adaption of the Novella "Edgedancer" which features the history of "Lift"? She has already made an appearance in this book and her actor would probably be available for the production...
Wonderful Chapter. by Evelyn (Posted on 1/1/2017)
Thanks so much for releasing this on Christmas. I got it as soon as it was out. More favorite scenes in this part. I love the scenes between Kaladin and Shallan. The actors did a great job making both characters shine. Adolin isn't in this chapter as much as the last one, but Tim Getman did a great job with him. I will be watching for part 5 with eagerness. I hope it is coming out in January.
Amazing by Stormlight Addict (Posted on 12/30/2016)
This chapter is amazing! and i have to give credit for leting us buy this one early as they ended the last one on a pretty big cliffhanger. so mad props for doing this! now om eagarly waiting for the next one i hope we see it soon as my addiction is forcing me to re-lisen to this audiobook many times.
The Feels are strong in this one. by Scott (Posted on 12/29/2016)
I was suppressed at the earlier release date by two weeks for this part and now I really need part 5 of book 2 to balance out the feelings of this book.
In this part we see Kaladin floundering with what he wants and what his heart tells him is the right thing to do. We see the encroaching darkness that is consuming the Parshendi people and see more new knights Radiant in other parts of the world.

But perhaps the most emotional part is the the further and most secret revelation of Shallons history near the end of this part.Be prepared for a cry for Shallon and her whole family. As much as I consumed this part I need the uplift I know is coming in part five to balance out the heartache in this part.

The people of GA have done great service to this series in bringing it to brilliant audio life.
Words of Radiance by James (Posted on 12/28/2016)
Graphic audio you took way too long to produce these books I ended up purchasing them from audible.com. your audio books I think are better quality but when there is a series like this some of us just can't wait to finish the story.
Amazing...again!!!! by A man who knows what he is talking about. (Posted on 12/27/2016)
Absolutely entrancing, i cant stop thinking about this world....when im at work, at the store picking up groceries, in line waiting to pay a snobby cashier at the local gas station...I am Stormblessed!!!!
As quoted from my Reddit post: by Redditor evilkill78 (Posted on 12/27/2016)
Part 4 of Words of Radiance contains one of the most surprisingly well-done scenes I've heard from them so far. [describes the scene, omitted for spoilers]. The prose version was good of course. But with actual music added, it brought the entire thing to life!

Thank you, Graphic Audio for continuing to create these fantastic adaptations for us all to enjoy!
As Awesome as Lift. by Evelyn (Posted on 12/27/2016)
The story continues to be a delight. All the actors are performing wonderfully. I will be watching close for part 5.
Great book. by Michael (Posted on 12/26/2016)
I've read nearly every book by SANDERSON, but the stormlight archives just take it to the next level. This graphic audio is the best way to listen to this book, and this is coming from someone who listened to the whole wheel of Time series with Michael Kramer.
