Trevor Lawson
1 : I Travel By Night

by Robert McCammon
Sep 1, 2014
3 Hours
Ages 18+
For Lawson, the horrors that stalked the Civil War battlefield at Shiloh were more than just those of war. After being forcibly given the gift of undeath by the mysterious vampire queen LaRouge, Lawson chose to cling to what remained of his humanity and fought his way free of the Dark Societys clutches. In the decades since, he has roamed late nineteenth-century America, doing what good he can as he travels by night, combating evils mundane and supernatural, and always seeking the key to regaining a mortal life.

That key lies with his maker, and now Lawson hopes to find LaRouge at the heart of a Louisiana swamp with the aid of a haunted priest and an unexpected ally. In the tornado-wracked ghost town of Nocturne, Lawson must face down monstrous enemies, the rising sun, and his own nature. Readers will not want to miss this thrilling new dark novella from a master storyteller.

Okay but not great by Jim (Posted on 12/4/2017)
I think this is the first GA dud for me. I just couldn't get into the story. I wanted to like it but just didn't do it for me.

I enjoy this story, it brings a nice twist to the western genre.
Not for me by Amy (Posted on 12/23/2016)
I tried to like this. I got almost halfway through before calling it quits. I just didn't like the story, or the characters. Nanette Savard's southern accent while narrating didn't help.
I Travel By Night by Lee (Posted on 9/1/2015)
I like the story will buy more please come out with more very good
Great short story! by William (Posted on 4/20/2015)
I found myself immediately wanting more of this one. Bradley Smith's voice in this one does a beautiful job of bringing out the human side still struggling to hang on.
Impressed with GA yet again.
Not on par with the Wolf's Hour by Brandon (Posted on 1/22/2015)
Being a HUGE fan of the GA production of The Wolf's Hour, I had to add this to my collection. The Wolf's Hour is deep, complex and enthralling. This was shallow, facile and too quick.
That said, this is a novella whereas The Wolf's Hour is not. So it is to be expected. However, were this a full length tale, I think it still would have missed some of the mystique of The Wolf's Hour.
The setting was great, but the locale brought up the bad taste of "True Blood". The antagonist had a great backstory (incidentally, the backstory of The Wolf's Hour is as well done as anything could be) and his quest was compelling. But I suppose the vampire genre is just a bit overdone for my tastes right now.
So is this worth a listen? Absolutely! For the price, you can't beat it. Would I love to hear more about the main character? Definitely! Is this on par with McCammon's other GA products? Not quite.
Yipe-ki-hissss by Jared (Posted on 10/23/2014)
I'd been skeptical at first when I first saw this, but have come to love and NEED more of this character and his adventures. For the uninitiated, think Clint Eastwood as a vampire and you're damn close to how freaking cool this is. I'm only sad there wasn't more to hear.
Wow! Surprised I liked it! Great Characters! by Armand (Posted on 10/15/2014)
I thought everything vampire was already done, boy was I wrong! This is a classic Vamp thriller type set in the 19th century. However, the acting and content are actually pretty fresh! It was like I was watching an old black & white picture show using more modern scripts.

Thoroughly enjoyed this short and -like others-, wish it was longer! Very entertaining and I am surprised I liked it so much.

Very easy listening! Very nice change of pace for me. 8-)

More Please! by Mary Jo (Posted on 10/5/2014)
This is excellent. I will admit that if I had realized it was the only one of its kind, I would have hesitated with this purchase. This was very well done.
Tasty tidbit. by victoria (Posted on 10/4/2014)
Finally, this is how vampires should be done! Extra kudos to the sound design they made the vampires silibant and nasty. Loved it.
The story was good. by rafael (Posted on 9/7/2014)
