Vatta's War
1 : Trading in Danger (2 of 2)

by Elizabeth Moon
Jan 1, 2010
5 Hours
Ages 13+
Kylara Vatta is the only daughter in a family full of sons, and her father's only child to buck tradition by choosing a military career instead of joining the family business. For Ky, it's no contest: Even running the prestigious Vatta Transport Ltd. shipping concern can't hold a candle to shipping out as an officer aboard an interstellar cruiser. It's adventure, not commerce, that stirs her soul. And despite her family's misgivings, there can be no doubt that a Vatta in the service will prove a valuable asset. But with a single error in judgment, it all comes crumbling down.

Expelled from the Academy in disgrace-and returning home to her humiliated family, a storm of high-profile media coverage, and the gaping void of her own future-Ky is ready to face the inevitable onslaught of anger, disappointment, even pity. But soon after opportunity's door slams shut, Ky finds herself with a ticket to ride-and a shot at redemption-as captain of a Vatta Transport ship.

It's a simple assignment: escorting one of the Vatta fleet's oldest ships on its final voyage...to the scrapyard. But keeping it simple has never been Ky's style. And even though her father has provided a crew of seasoned veterans to baby-sit the fledgling captain on her maiden milk run, they can't stop Ky from turning the routine mission into a risky venture-in the name of turning a profit for Vatta Transport, of course.

By snapping up a lucrative delivery contract defaulted on by a rival company, and using part of the proceeds to upgrade her condemned vehicle, Ky aims to prove she's got more going for her than just her family's famous name. But business will soon have to take a backseat to bravery, when Ky's change of plans sails her and the crew straight into the middle of a colonial war. For all her commercial savvy, it's her military training and born-soldier's instincts that Ky will need to call on in the face of deadly combat, dangerous mercenaries, and violent mutiny...

Trading in Danger(2) by G. (Posted on 6/12/2018)
good finish to the first part, but this looks like a beginning instead.
review by Bos (Posted on 6/8/2017)
it gets better, like the character development.
Space Epic by Travis (Posted on 7/18/2016)
The universe Elizabeth Moon has created is very intriguing and interesting. GA does a masterful job of adapting it. The characters are compelling and voiced acted superbly. The plot picks up in Part 2 of Book 1 and everything is set up nicely for a more to come. I listened to Part 1 and Part 2 while driving from Seattle to San Francisco, and it kept me entertained the entire drive.
Vatta's War 1 part 2 by Armand (Posted on 3/19/2016)
Continues the excellent story! Hooked! Can't wait to listen to the rest!
VATTA'S WAR 1 : Trading in Danger (2 of 2) by Arlon (Posted on 1/16/2016)
Definitely need to get both at same time, first leaves you hanging. Different yet really good storyline.
Great first book by Lionel (Posted on 10/14/2015)
Action picks up in this part! And voice acting again is top notch. I've already bought the next book cd's to continue on in this space opera! Excited to see what happens next!
Good by Shawn (Posted on 5/1/2015)
Not as good as the first one , but still enticing. it sure picks up pace faster but has some slow moments.
Continues to impress by Daniel (Posted on 2/7/2015)
After listening to the 1st half, how could I not pick up this one? The voice acting is top notch. The sound effects are a good accent, but not overpowering. And not least of all, the story is the heart and soul that it all centers around. Well done, downloading the rest of the series until it is complete.
The Journey Continues by Norman (Posted on 1/10/2015)
Vatta's war continues to surprise as more details emerge. and Ky learns not to procrastinate.
Lots of action by Mary Jo (Posted on 10/10/2014)
This is VERY entertaining. A fun listen. This is not a story to listen too during an activity requiring thought. This story sucks you in and keeps your attention. I listened to parts one and two in at one sitting.
Action ramps up by Mason (Posted on 9/21/2014)
Lots of action in part two that kept me on the edge of my seat. Very good ending.
Wildfire by CATDADDY (Posted on 3/18/2014)
Remember that slow burn in part one? In part 2, it becomes an all consuming wildfire. The depth of her similitude pays off in spades here as we become emotionally entangled in the characters' story. It's not wall-to-wall action, but as emotionally gripping a radio drama as GraphicAudio has yet produced. And, in the last minutes when someone sets down a fruitcake, as one of the funniest sound effects I may have ever heard.
A Great Listen by Susan (Posted on 2/17/2014)
My husband and I have been listening Vatta's War on our daily commute. It's a great adventure story and definitely leaves you wanting more. The voices and production quality are professional and believable. I'm just sorry there are only five books.
Review by William Wiggins (Posted on 5/23/2013)
VERY Entertaining! Great characters, well written and enjoyable to listen to. Not a big fan of constant "F Bombs", so this was a refreshing change from some of GA's other series.
