Demon Cycle
Messenger's Legacy

by Peter V. Brett
Feb 11, 2015
2.5 Hours
Ages 18+
Humanity has been brought to the brink of extinction. Each night, the world is overrun by demons—bloodthirsty creatures of nightmare that have been hunting the surface for over 300 years. A scant few hamlets and half-starved city-states are all that remain of a once proud civilization, and it is only by hiding behind wards, ancient symbols with the power to repel the demons, that they survive. A handful of Messengers brave the night to keep the lines of communication open between the increasingly isolated populace.

Briar Damaj is a boy of six in the small village of Bogton. Half Krasian, the village children call him Mudboy for his dark skin. When tragedy strikes, Briar decides the town is better off without him, fleeing into the bog with nothing but his wits and a bit of herb lore to protect him.

After twenty years, Ragen Messenger has agreed to retire and pass on his route to his protégé, Arlen Bales. But for all that he’s earned the rest, he has no idea what to do with the rest of his life. When he learns Briar, the son of an old friend, is missing, Ragen is willing to risk any danger to bring him safely home.

a nice novella that any Demon Cycle fan will enjoy!
Messenger's Legacy Novella by John (Posted on 12/29/2017)
Might we now know who the Deliverer is? Briar "Patch" Damaj?? Watch him in the following books and see if his hands don't make it clear. Great to revisit Regan again after a while. A foretelling novella with such a sad crucible that forges Briar into the man he must become.

Start to finish, Peter V. Brett's wonderful immersive world fought by human and demon alike. So many character arcs with lots of growth and change. Heroes and villains, plots and conflicts. Truly an abundant worthwhile series that will make you satisfied when you return to the book series after a period of time. A timeless series cheering for all humanity and our own favorite people that snuggle in close to our heart.

Good filler book by Joseph (Posted on 8/1/2015)
Enjoyed the production, a good filler story for the larger plot. Recommend others listen to it.
to read before The Skull Throne by Maarten (Posted on 4/27/2015)
Having read a lot of negative reviews on Peter's last work The Skull Throne (mainly because of the absence of the beloved characters Arlen & Jadir), I decided to tackle this novella first. It's an excellent and moving short story that shows Peter can write a valid story wthout Arlen. If this is the line of writing to be expected in the next installment of the D.C., I' really looking forward to the Graphic Audio version.
Excellent step into next series of stories! by Armand (Posted on 2/27/2015)
Really enjoyed this and it filled some time while waiting for more! As always, tip-top GA story telling!
A stand alone tale that serves as its own pilot by Jared (Posted on 2/25/2015)
Briar Damaj makes a surprise entry into my personal list of interesting characters by having a genuinely heart-breaking and badass origin story. I will admit I had been skeptical at first, but the way Mr Brett introduced us to Briar changed that in a heart beat. I will be on record now as saying I would gladly follow a significant portion of the Demon Cycle just from Briar's perspective as he continues his journey from where this short story ends.

The inclusion of Regann just after the ending of the third book, though, is just icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned, and I'm glad retirement hasn't dulled his badassery too much. Here's to the next installment!
A great new story in the Demon Cycle by Scott (Posted on 2/14/2015)
For those of us salivating for the next main installment this is a worthy appetizer. The first section focuses on the new character and takes place during the time of Arlen Bales messenger years and covers the life and destruction of a half Krasian family and a new protagonist Briar Patch who shows us another way to fight demons.

The second part takes place several weeks after book 3's ending and focuses on Arlan Bales mentor Regann the former Messenger who was a friend t the family and come to find the survivor after hearing news of his survival years later.

This is the first novella to offer us some new characters as the main point of view and this was a really fun and exciting short story. While the other two novella's could have easily been folded into the chapters of the Warded Man this story stands alone in its own right and engages us with the teachings of Krasias ways of demon fighting . Well worth the purchase.
