Ghost Finders
4 : Spirits From Beyond

by Simon R. Green
Feb 1, 2015
7 Hours
Ages 18+
Meet the operatives of the Carnacki Institute—JC Chance: the team leader, brave, charming, and almost unbearably arrogant; Melody Chambers: the science geek who keeps the antisupernatural equipment running; and Happy Jack Palmer: the terminally gloomy telepath. Their mission: Do Something About Ghosts. Lay them to rest, send them packing, or just kick their nasty ectoplasmic arses...

Their latest assignment takes the Ghost Finders of the Carnaki Institute to a small country village, site of a famously haunted inn. At first, JC thinks that the spirits in the King’s Arm Inn are more the stuff of folk tales and legend than anything that needs the Ghost Finder’s expertise. Then they are shown to their rooms and the inn shows its true face to JC, Melody and Happy, and it isn’t pretty.

Trapped by an unusual thunderstorm the team investigates, and they are forced, one by one, to face some hard truths about themselves, their relationships and the haunting itself—truths that may force Happy Jack Palmer over the edge and into the madness he has always feared...

Not great, but an improvement on the source material by Zack (Posted on 2/28/2019)
Like the third entry in the series, this one isn’t quite on the level of Ghost of a Smile, but it’s still fun. The premise in the story of putting together a group of people and bringing them into conflict by removing their ability to get away from each other is a well-trodden path in horror, but Green manages to make it amusing. My interest for the next book in the series definitely flagged a bit after two so-so stories in a row, but certain events do create enough intrigue about what’s to come in the next title that I did continue with the series.

As always, the GA team does their very best with the source material and make entertaining a story that is a bit of a slog in its original form.

Stay strong happy by Alexander (Posted on 8/5/2017)
The strain on the team is clearly visable and the threat this time is a realy "oldschool haunting".

GHOST FINDERS 4 : Spirits From Beyond by Betsy (Posted on 9/29/2015)
This book was a little tougher to catch on too but proved to be pretty good in the end.
Another great episode! by Anthony (Posted on 3/10/2015)

Take em as they are by damien (Posted on 2/2/2015)
I was initially going to be a bit harder on this one, I didn't enjoy it as much as some of the earlier stories. However I realized that I should just accept it for what it is: a fun and light adventure. The Ghost Finders stories are flawed, but fun, and although this one got a bit overly dramatic at spots, it fits into the pulp dramatics of the series at whole. It has some memorable scenes (particularly with Lud) and a good stinger that has my interest piqued for the next one.
