A stunning artifact holds the key to an untapped power of global destruction.

While working on a dig in the California wilderness, archaeologist-adventurer Annja Creed uncovers evidence of a tragedy that''s linked to Chinese miners during the days of the Gold Rush. A sudden attack on the site by shadow if gures drives Annja to find the connection to a mysterious buried city in China. Lured by legends of gold, betrayal and the vengeance of a Han Dynasty overlord, Annja travels on the Orient Express, battling avaricious treasure hunters and a modern-day descendant of an ancient league of assassins. Her adversaries will stop at nothing to stake their claim on the fabled lost city, where a Han leader''s dark past promises doom for those who dare to reveal its evil power.

After buying Rogue Angel #49 "Devil's Chord" and #54 "Day of Atonement" in a truck stop on the way to California, I was hooked on this series. On returning to Virginia I started with #1 and just finished #5 "Forbidden City" over the weekend. I have enjoyed every adventure in the series, but this one seemed to have extra fine special sound effects, from desert sand to helicopter blades to a spectacular underground gun fight. Even the ending, which saw the two male protagonists bonding as one rescued the other I found particularly enjoyable. This series is great, and I continually think these are the story lines Tia Carrere should have been offered in "Relic Hunter."
This one had me hooked. by Brian (Posted on 2/13/2017)
I was hooked from beginning to end. Annja is becoming a heroine the not un like Buffy.

Loved the storytelling in this edition.

This book is by far my favorite of the series so far. The chinese history and folklore was very interesting. I liked how the story switched to different characters every chapter. I definitely like when Mel Odom is the author for this series. I feel like he understands Annja more and her relationship with Roux and Garin. In the other novels they are hardly brought into the story. Annja and Roux relationship has really grown in this book. I hope the other novels stick to this format.

Love the trail that Annja has to follow that takes her to China. GA never fails to deliver another great book in a great series!
good history, good story by Sarah (Posted on 1/3/2016)
I actually remember reading something about this history a long time ago in high school. I love history and love how they present a twist on it. Good job there.

It's really sad to say this at #5 of a long series. but. This is my MOST FAVORITE Rogue Angel book. to be fair, I have not read or heard them all. But I want to. I simply LOVE Annja. her stories are rock solid.

Annja and the Scythians by Brandon (Posted on 1/23/2014)
This was my third RA title and I can't get enough of Annja! The story is straight forward, but does get a bit muddled due to the Far Eastern names and locations. Character development is such a huge factor in determining if I will like a story, and Annja has been so well fleshed out in the series that I feel like I know her. I know her style, her tactics, her reasoning, etc. This really helps someone suspend disbelief and enter into the story.
As another reviewer mentioned, the byplay with two of the series' main characters is very entertaining. My only beef has to do with what is often called the "MacGuffin", or object in a story that serves to trigger the plot. Each of the RA stories has a MacGuffin, but in this case, it was VERY anticlimactic and confusing. It was almost an afterthought at the very end, it seemed.
But overall, I am satisfied with the purchase and am moving on to the next in the series!

This was a great story, a lot of adventure, no swearing, just good old fashion fun! Get your train ticket punched and come along for the ride!
Review by Wayne Noble (Posted on 5/23/2013)
I must say I like this album as it got more towards the end. It was definitely better than the previous album. I especially liked the end when two main characters start fighting each other. It was just hilarious. Absolutely no cussing in this story either. Just a good story. No sex scenes either. Mel Odom aka alex archer done good on this one too. I am going through listening to all of these and I plan on leaving reveiws in each one as I see that a lot don't have them. Music score was much better and I can tell that Graphic Audio was learning as they were going on these but they are definitely getting better as far as production as they go along. Good job GA. It did remind me of an Indiana Jones style story. Very much so.
