125 : Devil's Vortex

by James Axler
Jan 20, 2016
5 Hours
Ages 18+
An orphaned teen with the ability to transform into a vicious whirlwind latches on to Ryan and the companions as they travel through former North Dakota. Her deadly power seems like a boon at first, until it starts to control her. When threatened, she destroys everything in her path…including those she loves. Then a group of outcast fighters kidnaps the young woman and manipulates her—and her terrifying mutation—for their own destructive agenda. With the vortex unleashed, the companions face a tough decision: chill the orphan or perish in her violent wake.

Since the nukecaust, the American dream has been reduced to a daily fight for survival. In the hellish landscape of Deathlands, few dare to dream of a better tomorrow. But Ryan Cawdor and his companions press on, driven by the need for a future less treacherous than the present.

Pretty good, I’ve listened to better books. I consider this book above average.

Another hit. Little girl with a hidden ability or more of being possessed by a unatural force. Root of the story with great power; if left unchecked leads to abuse of that power. The question you must have answered only by listening to the book, is does she use it against the group or there opposition?
couldn't wait by nicole (Posted on 11/4/2016)
It took me two days to finish this story. Normally I can do a whole book a day. I couldn't wait to pick up where I left off.

Was listening to this story yesterday. It made a 4 hour car ride fly by. I actually sat in the car to finish it after I arrived at my destination. Can't wait for the next one to arrive.

Love the audio books, but keep waiting for Dean to reappear. I miss him greatly for he is one of the family. Please let me know when he is going to appear. Thanks
End of the traditional Deathlands written books goes out with a bang by robert Hir (Posted on 5/27/2016)
The very beginning of this book was a little odd story wise, but it very quickly turns around and gets really good. There's a fair amount of Jak (good thing), they tough on the JB/Mildred relationship (missing in a number of recent books), and the story in this one has you going back and forth between feeling for, and against the kid with the black whirlwind powers. The story is good (only sorta odd part is the party/kid break towards the end, and how they reconnect, and that the party ends up doing odd jobs throughout the book for no reason), but the good parts of this story completely over-shadow the iffy parts. The girl and her powers were really well done, each time they where used, and the ending of this book is really good, and well done by the GA team (gave me the goose bumps while driving). If this was the last Deathlands, I'd say they went out on a good note, thankfully it's not.

Did not like the story, but GA always makes it better. Once again though, I want to know when the Mexican kid is going to even mention his sister he is supposed to be looking for?

Deathlands #125 Devil's Vortex by Steven (Posted on 2/18/2016)
Excellent story. The companions are seemingly burdened with a young orphan girl. Ryan just wants to leave her but Krysty's compassionate wins out. What use or skills can she contribute to out intrepid group. As it turns out her hidden destructive talents make her a prize much in demand, but can she control those abilities or are they a blessing or a curse. All of a sudden, every power mad group wants her. Be careful what you wish for, you may just get more than you bargained for.
