16 : Moon Fate

by James Axler
Jul 1, 2006
6 Hours
Ages 18+
Generations have passed since a nuclear blast all but turned America to dust. Out of the ruins emerges a band of warrior-survivalists, led by a one-eyed man called Ryan Cawdor. In their quest to find a better life, they embark on a perilous odyssey across the ravaged wasteland known as Deathlands.

An ambush by a roving group of mutant Stickies puts Ryan and Krysty Wroth in the clutches of a tyrant who plans a human sacrifice as a symbol of his power. The execution is set to take place at the new moon-one night away. Ryan devises an escape plan but is betrayed by another prisoner. As they break for freedom, the Stickie leader unleashes a team of hunter-trackers among the maze of narrow canyons of the Southwest. For Ryan and Krysty, there''s nowhere left to run...

In the Deathlands, the only thing that gets easier is dying.

Without going into spoilers too much, some really messed up things happen in this book. It was a good listen all the same, but not for the squeamish.
Gory Sticky Playground by James R (Posted on 11/21/2016)
Deathlands 16, Moon Fate is one of my top four Deathlands installments. The others are Dark Carnival, Pandora's Redoubt, and Cannibal Moon. The sticky torture is gross, but necessary to paint a real post-apocalyptic horror story. So enjoy characters digging through corpses and sticky, flammable torture of human prey.

I live and gate the stickies. They are a thing of nightmares and great stories!

A Repeat of a Repeat by Vann (Posted on 2/25/2015)
Repeating theme that is. Which theme? Not taking care of business when it should have been handled. Ryan and Dean returning from the cold north find that Kristy and the rest had some troubles of their own while awaiting for their return. This leads part of the group firmly into the hands of Charlie, a blast from the past for Ryan. This Stickie leader is unlike any other and its hell on earth. This story played heavily on more squeamish material at times, but this is the Deathlands, and nothing is pretty about survival.

Review by Johnny Tai (Posted on 5/23/2013)
Just revisited this one with my girlfriend last weekend, so thought I leave a review since I forgot to do the first time around.

This one has some very interesting twists, and Ryan and his companions got taken down a few notches.

The beginning of it is exceptionally great, really makes you wonder if something awful has happened while Ryan was away from the group.

And that scene with digging through the corpses...it's so gross it's wonderful.

The one thing I dislike is the down play of stickies- I prefer them as mindless, shrieking horrors rather than this gun-wielding, stupid and clumsy man-like things.

The ending is slightly off like many old style horror movies where the bad guy you thought dead all of a sudden appear out of nowhere for no reason and then get owned again.

And Christina is appearing quite bitchy in this book- you know what that means...there's almost like a pattern in Deathlands that when a character suddenly becomes unusually cranky/bitchy, that character's dying soon- I'd lay my money on it.
