23 : Road Wars

by James Axler
May 1, 2007
7 Hours
Ages 18+
Emerging out of the ashes of the nuclear apocalypse, no one has been more successful and determined than Ryan Cawdor and his band of warrior survivalists. But if the wasteland''s endless miles come between them, the odds for getting back together again-for their very survival-are not in their favor.

A cryptic message regarding the long-missing Trader sends Ryan and the Armorer on an odyssey to the Pacific Northwest, away from their base, away from their band of warrior survivalists, away from Krysty Wroth. While Ryan battles the blood-hungry predators of the road, back in New Mexico, Krysty Wroth and the others fight off attacks against their weakened group in an all-out struggle for survival.

In the Deathlands, fate and chance are clashing with frightening force.

This felt like a collection of short stories, almost like the writer had too many ideas running around in his head to settle on one theme. The battles and situations that the two groups handled were great, but Ryan's story line felt a little disjointed. The Graphic Audio crew did an outstanding job keeping us on the edge of our seats though. Hat's off to the crew for making what could have been a downer of a story very exciting.
To an old Friend by JEFF GraphicAudioFan (Posted on 6/2/2015)
In the Deathlands, the Postal Service is long gone. Trying to send a message to someone, without a known whereabouts - an unthinkable endeavor. Yet, Ryan Cawder receives two of these messages, both merging at the same location and time. What are the odds .. that they are both from old friends ?

Years later, and I am still remembering these tales..

GraphicAudio, you have made a lasting impression !

Ryan & J.B. off to find the Trader. A long overland trip with a lot of dangerous miles to cover.
Review by Eric Convery (Posted on 5/23/2013)
Deathlands #23: Road Wars tells the tale of Ryan Cawdor's and J. B. Dix's journey from New Mexico to Washington (state, not D. C.) to be reunited with their old friend Abe and their old leader Trader. It's my personal favorite of all the Deathlands stories, because of their many encounters on the road with various types of people, some of them friendly, some not-so-friendly. I particularly enjoyed their encounter with Malachi Gribble in his own, highly-unique ville. The actor who voiced Gribble did an especially amazing job of conveying Gribble's personality to the listener. And, once again, Richard Rohan and Terence Aselford gave amazing performances as Ryan Cawdor and J. B. Dix! Kudos to them, and to everyone else involved in this production!
