What was once the United States is now the rad-blasted world of Deathlands...a place that more than lives up to its name. Led by a one-eyed warrior called Ryan Cawdor, a straggling band of survivors roams the nuke-ravaged land, homing their survival skills in a wasteland where danger lurks over the next hill.

Emerging into one of the pre-dark installations known as redoubts, the group is taken prisoner in a fully functioning army base operating in a parody of life before the blowout. Its occupants are inbred soldiers, a legacy to the lost secrets of the Totality Concept. Led by the mad general of an obscene military project, the base has found its last hope in the ragtag bunch, a fate that may be even more horrifying than the hell they have survived.

In the Deathlands nothing is certain...especially the future.

Well, that was different... by Vann (Posted on 1/12/2019)
A massive computer that utilizes humans as it's processor, and they have their eye on Doc as a replacement part. This story was an almost uncomfortable departure from most of the normal storylines of the past. It was so focused on Doc's story that the rest of the troop, and the issues they were handling, was almost lost in the process. Again, as this is an early production for GA in the Deathlands series, Mildred is still played by Colleen. All in all, still a good one to listen to as you get to learn a bit more about Doc's background.

Encountering a still functioning but inbred army base, Doc is selected the new replacement component for a massive computer that is run by several individuals hooked up to it for decades as it's brain.

Good enough but really just met the status quo of some of the other books

Typical military gone mad one, like the ant hill; some sand people; and an interesting bit with Doc. Not one of my favs and a bit slow.
