1 : The Final Empire (1 of 3)

by Brandon Sanderson

Ages 13+
Brandon Sanderson, fantasy's newest master tale spinner, author of the acclaimed debut Elantris, dares to turn a genre on its head by asking a simple question: What if the hero of prophecy fails? What kind of world results when the Dark Lord is in charge? The answer will be found in the Mistborn Trilogy, a saga of surprises and magical martial-arts action that begins in Mistborn.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison. Kelsier "snapped" and found in himself the powers of a Mistborn. A brilliant thief and natural leader, he turned his talents to the ultimate caper, with the Lord Ruler himself as the mark.

Kelsier recruited the underworld's elite, the smartest and most trustworthy allomancers, each of whom shares one of his many powers, and all of whom relish a high-stakes challenge. Only then does he reveal his ultimate dream, not just the greatest heist in history, but the downfall of the divine despot.

But even with the best criminal crew ever assembled, Kel's plan looks more like the ultimate long shot, until luck brings a ragged girl named Vin into his life. Like him, she's a half-Skaa orphan, but she's lived a much harsher life. Vin has learned to expect betrayal from everyone she meets, and gotten it. She will have to learn to trust, if Kel is to help her master powers of which she never dreamed.

Wow by Tyler (Posted on 2/6/2019)
I thoroughly enjoyed this! Great story, great magic system. It had me hooked from the start and I can't wait for the next one.
Wonderful Book, by Brandon (Posted on 11/27/2018)
This was my first Graphic Audio book and wow did it set a stage. I got the CD's and was blown away not just by the story but also by the production value.

The story starts small and grows, at each turn more is revealed. The characters grow in understandable ways. The world they are in is well crafted and wonderful to read about. And how the author describes the scenes along with the music and voice actors really sets a stage.
Excellent start! by William (Posted on 11/22/2018)
I’ve been looking forward to checking out this series and so far I’m not disappointed! Awesome characters, awesome story, awesome production, it’s probably the best thing I’ve heard from Graphic Audio so far and I haven’t even started Part 2 of The Final Empire yet!
I Forgot What It Felt Like To Love a Book This Much by Tyler (Posted on 11/21/2018)
I'm about halfway through Part 1 of The Final Empire, and all I can't express how happy I am that I decided to jump into the unknown on this one. A couple of friends from my DnD group recommended this series to me and I absolutely love it.

At first I hesitated to try audiobooks in any form, because I am a very visual person and I like to see words on the page (subtitles for other media), and be able to take my time when I need to review something that I just read etc. But my experience here soothed those concerns. The music, sound effects, voice acting, and general feel of this graphic audio thing is phenomenal. I can't recommend it enough.

If your concern is from an audiobook versus paper perspective, give the demo up there a listen and see what you think. Give it a chance. You won't be disappointed.
Really good start by Jason (Posted on 8/26/2018)
The only reason this doesn't get 5 stars...err...headphones is because it is a bit slower in the start. It takes a while to set things up but is very interesting. Not a lot of action. The magic is pretty thoroughly explained but not really used as much as it is throughout the rest of the series. Everyone should absolutely listen to this and the rest of the series. The performance was great (voice acting, sound effects, and music). This is the best performed and produced series I have heard yet. Doubt anything will top it.
Should made to movies by Natira (Posted on 8/6/2018)
Adventure, love, friendship, loyalty, magic, fantasy…. This series has it all. Everyone must, absolutely must, listen to this series! My husband and I truly wish this series would be made into a bunch of live action movies.
Awesome one by Mohammad (Posted on 7/6/2018)
A friend of mine has told me that I'll enjoy the final empire because he knows I will :).

I've listened to the hole book and it was really really good, I am listening to the second one right now.
Cool book by Ryan (Posted on 6/1/2018)
I really loved this audio book!
Thoroughly Impressed by Anthony (Posted on 5/10/2018)
My introduction to Brandon Sanderson was a regular audio book of Elantris. While that was good, this Graphic Audio version of Mistborn is amazing. The voice actors sound realistic and get into their role. The ambient sounds really paint the scene in your mind. The audio quality is solid, and the audio effects like reverb helps differentiate when it's the characters thoughts. Really awesome experience.
Incomparable by Inga Auðbjörg (Posted on 3/28/2018)
The only bad thing with the Mistborn series in the graphic audio format is that it's incomparable to everything else. It's just that good. The characters are deep, the philosophy is strong, the acting is fantastic, the music great, the soundscape wonderful and the story is epic. Very, very, very recommendable.
Mistborn: Final Empire by Paulette (Posted on 3/25/2018)
This was my first experience with Graphic Audio. I found the CD's at a local library and tried them out of curiosity. I absolutely loved it! It's a great storyline and Graphic Audio brought it to life. I have since shared Graphic Audio with my brother in law who is a truck driver and loves audio books. We are both addicted and have listened to the books many times!
Enthralled by Kelly (Posted on 2/18/2018)
I think one of the best series GA has done. The characters are portrayed so charmingly and are read to fit their personalities. Never thought of metal as its own sort of magic and love the take on it. Grew attached to this series very quickly. Well done.
Mistborn The Final Empire Part 1 by Buchanan (Posted on 2/18/2018)
The Final Empire is an excellent beginning to a phenomenal series.
100% by Dustin (Posted on 1/14/2018)
So far my all time favorite story! I've read the books several times and listened to GA at least 4 times. Mistborn will tug at every emotion you have. And the ending is so.... Well I'll let you be the judge
The Start of Something Amazing by Dee (Posted on 1/10/2018)
Perfect voices for each character! Wonderful sound effect! An amazing experience!
Amazing by Joseph (Posted on 9/3/2017)
I had read the book before listening to this. GA does an amazing job of bringing these characters to life. Highly Recommend.
5 stars, highly recommended by Andrew (Posted on 9/1/2017)
Sanderson is a master of his craft, and this is one of his best.
A must read by Ashley (Posted on 8/13/2017)
A deep and engaging world with a plot that continually grows and keeps you listening. The characters are great and you root for them to the end. While it gets slow sometimes, it's well worth listening to and it never outstays its welcome.
as good as the book by Alexander (Posted on 5/18/2017)
Im a fan of Brandon Sanderson and read the books. Sanderson is one of the best word builders and the people of graphicaudio have done a superb job of adapting it to this media.
First Graphic Audio by Emily (Posted on 4/4/2017)
This was my very first Graphic Audio listen and I've been hooked ever since. Not only is Brandon Sanderson a master storyteller, but Graphic Audio did the works more than justice with their production. They truly brought the characters and the story to life. Love this series and Graphic Audio!!
Creative and funny by Ryan (Posted on 2/4/2017)
Very creative and fascinating magic system. I love the crew and the interplay of characters wresting with real problems.
Mistborn The Final Empire by Clarence (Posted on 12/23/2016)
One of the best books I have had the pleasure of listening to. A very interesting and Original story and as I have come to expect from Brandon Sanderson a even though fictional still believable system of magic.
My Favorite by mike (Posted on 11/24/2016)
I just love this series ... such a great world and GA does wonderful job build that world.
Mistborn: The Final Empire (1 of 3) by Craig (Posted on 10/19/2016)
I remember the old radio broadcasts of Starwars, I absolutely loved them and had wished over and over that more such works would be done, but decades passed, After getting started reading several books on my phone, I found my phone could read them to me, but the robo-voice was mediocre at best, so while looking for other Brandon Sanderson books in audiobook format I found graphic audio. I must say what a find. Now not only do I have a real voice, I also have a full theatrical audio book with mood and theme music sound effects and brilliantly talented voice actors. The editors have also edtited out the no-longer-necessary "bob said, jill said, bob replied, jill laughed" tags that are no longer needed as you have real recognizable voices for each characters, who will act out believable laughter, sobs, and grunts and groans on tune to make conversations flow more realistically.
A new world! by Steven (Posted on 8/14/2016)
Welcome to the new world of darkness, ash, intrigue, and allomancy. Good magic systems to learn about and a good book series to start.
Excellent way to re-experience a favorite novel. by Amy (Posted on 8/8/2016)
I absolutely love this production. This is my second time reading this book, but my first time listening to the GA adaptation. It's amazing experiencing some of my favorite characters this way. Especially when my favorite GA actress is playing Vin. I'm doing what I call The Epic Mistborn Reread. I'm going to work my way through all of the GA Mistborn adaptations. I cannot wait.
Fabulous!!! by Carlton (Posted on 8/4/2016)
I had a friend share this book with me and told me it was a great story. I'm not very fond of fantasy other than Rogue Angel. I've only listened to just this part of the first book so my judgement on this series may change. After listening to just this one part I am captivated with the characters. I recognize most of the voices from other books, but Vin doesn't sound as familiar. I've never had a writer that could hold my attention for 6 hours while he did nothing it seemed other than build characters and plot. Very good book. Very Good. I'm anxious to move on to the next one.
First Graphic Audio title I ever purchased by Raymond (Posted on 7/21/2016)
I loved the book, started with only the (1of3) to see if I liked it, a Truck driver saw me looking at "the other" audio books and asked "You listen to those?" then he started telling me about Graphic Audio. I hadn't really looked at them to hard since I could tell they were all the same company and I had assumed they were massed produced cheaper titles or something. I was wrong! After listening to (1of3) I quickly started trying to find (2 and 3 of 3) for my return trip from Oregon to Arizona. The only thing hindering me from getting the rest at this point is $60 for all three parts of 1 book, and on some series it could be $100 for all 5 parts, I don't have that kind of money. But great series and great writer!!!
Surprisingly Enjoyable by Cassiopeia (Posted on 5/5/2016)
Out of all of Brandon Sanderson's books, the Mistborn Series are the only ones I haven't actually read. Oddly enough, I never got into the first one and, having not read book one I could hardly move on to any of the others. GraphicAudio, however, made it both easy and enjoyable for me to delve into the world of Mists and Metal. I loved the voices chosen for the characters and I found Eland particularly adorable in his sweet, idiotically idealistic way. Vin was also well acted though, personally, I didn't care much for her character. Still, this was a well done adaptation, in so far as I haven't read the books at least, and I'm actually quite eager to finish a series I had not before held much interest in.
Just.. WOW.. by William (Posted on 1/15/2016)
I have always been interested in this series and on a road trip I decided to finally buy it. It is absolutely AWESOME! Not only is the series intriguing and unique, but the actors are on point! I especially love the voice actor for the female role. She does an outstanding job in adding just the right amount of inflection in her voice to make you know what she is feeling. Once again GraphicAudio has created a movie in my mind and I thank you for it!
