1 : The Final Empire (2 of 3)

by Brandon Sanderson
Jan 1, 2014
6 Hours
Ages 13+
Brandon Sanderson, fantasy's newest master tale spinner, author of the acclaimed debut Elantris, dares to turn a genre on its head by asking a simple question: What if the hero of prophecy fails? What kind of world results when the Dark Lord is in charge? The answer will be found in the Mistborn Trilogy, a saga of surprises and magical martial-arts action that begins in Mistborn.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison. Kelsier "snapped" and found in himself the powers of a Mistborn. A brilliant thief and natural leader, he turned his talents to the ultimate caper, with the Lord Ruler himself as the mark.

Kelsier recruited the underworld's elite, the smartest and most trustworthy allomancers, each of whom shares one of his many powers, and all of whom relish a high-stakes challenge. Only then does he reveal his ultimate dream, not just the greatest heist in history, but the downfall of the divine despot.

But even with the best criminal crew ever assembled, Kel's plan looks more like the ultimate long shot, until luck brings a ragged girl named Vin into his life. Like him, she's a half-Skaa orphan, but she's lived a much harsher life. Vin has learned to expect betrayal from everyone she meets, and gotten it. She will have to learn to trust, if Kel is to help her master powers of which she never dreamed.

Great Continuation! by Tyler (Posted on 2/6/2019)
I loved the first one and this is a great addition. The acting and sounds are still top notch just like the first part. The moral dilemmas and tension built up should lead to a great final part.
I'd feel bad not reviewing this excellence. by William (Posted on 1/24/2019)
I just realized I never did review this. So I'll just that this was easily the part of the Final Empire that made me know that I'd be willing to read not only beyond the trilogy, but more of Mr Sanderson's stuff. And it gets better!
Absolutely Great by Jason (Posted on 8/26/2018)
So now that everything is setup in the story (from part 1) it really starts to hit the mark. By this time you know most of the characters and really start to like them. There is more action then the first part with one really particularly cool battle scene, my favorite in the early books. You see the magic system in use and really works great with the story. The performance was great (voice acting, sound effects, and music). Top notch.
Took only a matter of days to finish by Dee (Posted on 8/8/2018)
Every moment is filled with intrigue. GraphicAudio takes Mistborn to a whole other level. The voices are absolutely perfect. This one talks a few days to listen to. Once you're sucked in, you're sucked in for good.
Really liked it by Mohammad (Posted on 7/6/2018)
A friend of mine has told me that I'll enjoy the final empire because he knows I will :).

I've listened to the hole book and it was really really good, I am listening to the second one right now.
Awesome Book by Ryan (Posted on 6/1/2018)
Loved the actors in this!
I Cried by Kelly (Posted on 2/18/2018)
So much emotion, the characters are bursting with hurt and anger and passion for their cause, it really spoke to me. So happy with this purchase, can't wait to buy part 3.
The plot thickens by Andrew (Posted on 9/2/2017)
Part 2 is where we start really learning about this world Sanderson has created. The magic of allomancy is is well described and simultaneously majestic and brutal. Getting to see both high society and the peasantry through Vin's eyes really brings home the impossibility of our heroes'plan.
Superbly done by Levi (Posted on 8/21/2017)
I've read the first book years ago and on a wim tried out the audible version. But this version, the GA version, completely blows it out of the water. So much more vivid descriptions and the voices are absolutely perfect for the characters.
After I get all of this series done I'm definitely gonna browse the rest of the catalog.
This is brilliant! by Ailin (Posted on 1/26/2017)
If you are not familiar w Brandon Sanderson work, start with mistborn. This book was one of my fav of GA's production so far. The book starts a bit slow but it will suck you in I promise. Again graphic audio you rock!
Plot thickens by Steven (Posted on 8/14/2016)
Things start to come together as the story progresses, the main character starts to become better at what they do. And a little bit more of the world is uncovered as the storyline progresses.
So. Good. by Amy (Posted on 8/8/2016)
What can I say other than this is fantastic? This is the second part, and is just as good as the first. This is such a brilliant adaptation, it almost hurts. I know Part 3 will be just as good.
Second GA purchase by Raymond (Posted on 7/21/2016)
This is a great series from a very talented writer, loved it.
Also see my review of part 1!!
Surprisingly Enjoyable by Cassiopeia (Posted on 5/5/2016)
Out of all of Brandon Sanderson's books, the Mistborn Series are the only ones I haven't actually read. Oddly enough, I never got into the first one and, having not read book one I could hardly move on to any of the others. GraphicAudio, however, made it both easy and enjoyable for me to delve into the world of Mists and Metal. I loved the voices chosen for the characters and I found Eland particularly adorable in his sweet, idiotically idealistic way. Vin was also well acted though, personally, I didn't care much for her character. Still, this was a well done adaptation, in so far as I haven't read the books at least, and I'm actually quite eager to finish a series I had not before held much interest in.
A sequel to keep things flowing! by William (Posted on 3/14/2016)
This book was an excellent continuation of a story that deserves to be told! The plot is driven and the characters are unique and original! I love this series!
Excellent! by Paul (Posted on 2/24/2016)
A fantastic production down to the smallest details!
Excellent by Chase (Posted on 2/12/2016)
I'm glad they brought Mistborn to GA. It's one of my favorite series and the actors and actresses bring life to the series.
Character Description by Jocelyn (Posted on 1/24/2016)
I find it annoying when the characters' physical description is given. I have a vivid imagination and my mind creates images of the characters based on their voices and personalities. For instance I see Vin as having dark auburn hair that almost passes as black except for when the light catches the fiery undertones. She is greatly underestimated because of her size which she uses to her advantage...love that about her!
Book 2 by justin (Posted on 12/11/2015)
This is a really great book check it out
Continue to be wowwed in Part 2 of 3 by Samantha (Posted on 11/28/2015)
The graphic audio version of Mistborn continues to impress me. Love the actor for Elend Venture. The full cast audio really brings the witty dialogues between the characters to life.
Addictive by Arthur (Posted on 6/6/2015)
1 was slow but good 2 isn't slow I am hooked on this series now.
Mistborn 2of3 by Lionel (Posted on 5/19/2015)
Another top notch performance by Graphic Audio! Great Voice acting, and the sounds, and environment are brought vividly into your imagination through this medium. I don't know if a movie could do this justice, as you guys have. Keep up the good work!
A fantastic story by Helgi Gunnar (Posted on 5/4/2015)
After listening to this, Brandon Sanderson has become my favorite author. It is refreshing to read fantasy that is not a copy of Tolkien every once in a while. A must own for those who enjoy fantasy.
Awesome by Mel (Posted on 2/9/2015)
The Mistborn series continues to intrigue me. I love how you are able to build the character relations and have different voices to know which character is talking.
I also love how the sound is choreographed along with the characters movements - grunts, etc during jumps and fighting.
still amazing by Chris (Posted on 1/28/2015)
i crack jokes at my wife about her needing to swallow puter to help with work.. She give me the flat look I'd expect from vin. These book keep my interest in reading alive and well witch is hard to do.
Continues the great story! by Armand (Posted on 10/9/2014)
This is great entertainment! Sanderson's wonderful "metal" twists on themes is fresh and new! This continuation doesn't disappoint and introduces more twists while seamlessly moving along at the perfect pace.

You will love this whole series!
Just Keep on Listening by Erika (Posted on 9/28/2014)
I reviewed the frist part of this months ago but I forgot to review this part so I am now rectifying that mistake. I love how Vin develops in this part. There is the conspirator but also a young girl inside who has been beaten down by life and those who should have protected her. I think that Graphic Audio does a wonderful job bringing out the best of this series.
Movie In Your Mind by john (Posted on 8/30/2014)
I have eagerly devoured everything that Brandon Sanderson has written over at the audible.com website. The narrator Michael Kramer did a fantastic job in my opinion, however his female voices leave much to be desired. I was thrilled to learn about graphic audio's attempt at this trilogy (The author has confirmed that there will be 3 trilogies for Mistborn, he is working on Book 2 of Trilogy 2 at the time of this review, titled: Shadows of Self.) So much talent is employed here with a large selection of voice actors: both male and female, sound effects and music, this truly is a movie in your mind and now all of audible's work seems insufficient in comparison. I highly recommend this to anyone thinking about buying audibles version, so they won't. 6 Headsets!!!

Awesome! by Travis (Posted on 8/14/2014)
I enjoyed the increase in political intrigue. I really like the voice actor doing the voice of Vin... in my opinion, she's a really good fit for the character.
Act II Problems and the "Magic" of Sound by Michael Bergonzi/Audio Drama Reviews (Posted on 7/31/2014)
While I enjoy political intrigue, all the ball scenes felt out of place. The tone was too different from the rest of the story. I realize it was necessary for having the plan established in part one to work, but the way it was handled could’ve been better. The sound effects were great. Each metal had a distinct sound, but sounded familiar enough to each other that it could be identified as allomancy. For example, Iron and steel are both external metals, but have opposite effects. One pulls objects towards you, while the other pushes them away. Their sounds are both similar, yet different, thus adding a certain ambience to the world through the SFX.
